Upper Mustang Trek -17Days

Mustang valley trek is an ancient Himalayan Kingdom exploring trek which lies in the northern central part of Nepal. The Mustang lies in the Northern central part of Nepal, at the top of Kaligandaki River where you get the access from Jomsom valley in. Upper Mustang consists of two distinct regions: 1) The Southern part and Northern where the language, culture and traditions are alike Tibetan. The entire area of these regions has been an isolated and mystical feel, enchanting and inspiring to the visitors. Most interesting and picturesque places during your trekking in this valley are above places where you will find uniqueness, cultural and in traditions as well as amazing landscape. Climbing up and down, through the high altitude desert country huge sided valley of Kali Gandaki the trek to Lo- Manthang is an unforgettable journey throughout the valley. By passing these beautiful regions which are decorated beauty by oldest Buddhist Monasteries, ancient and isolated unique villages with beautiful quaint white washed houses your trek is most enjoyable. Throughout the gorge of Kali Gandaki river which runs through the deepest in the world, you come out in Muktinath and then decent your trek to Jomsom. Finally you will flyout from Jomsom to Pokhara and then further to Kathmandu. Upper Mustang Trek -17Days

1ST DAY

ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU (1300);

Arrival in Kathmandu Tribhuwan International Airport. Welcome at airport and transfer to the hotel. Check-in and remaining day rest for acclimatization in Kathmandu.

2ND DAY

KATHMANDU TO POKHARA (960M);

Morning breakfast, after then our team will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Domestic airport in Kathmandu to take your towards flight to Pokhara or proceed to drive to Pokahra. The Pokhara is one of the most famous city in Nepal, which lies just front of the Fishtail mountain which is also called Machhapuchhre in Nepali. This is also the most famous trekking entry point to the Annapurna range which is 200km away from Kathmandu, 6-8 hours drive by road and 20 minutes by flight. Arrival in Pokhara and check in at hotel. Rest the evening on your own in Pokhara walking around the beautiful city of Pokhara.

3RD DAY

POKHARA—JOMSOM (2,780M) - KAGBENI ( 2810M);

Early morning breakfast at your hotel and transfer to the Pokhara domestic airport to take your flight to Jomsom where your trek starts from. The flight is APPX 25 minutes from Pokhara. You will be flying in most spectacular route by passing inside the mountain valley, over the beautiful villages finally will land in Jomsom at the altitude of 2,780 meter at the bank of Kali Gandaki river. After picking up and preparing for the treks gear, we will start our trekking trail direction to the Kagbeni. The trail is rough and barren but is mostly flat. Crossing the Kali Gandaki river, by passing the Jomsom bazaar, with beautiful cinerary of Dhaulagiri, Tilicho peak, Niligiry mountains we will reach a medieval looking beautiful town Kagbeni which is situated in a little Oasis with beautiful red large Gompa. We will rest and end our today’s trekking in Kagbeni. Evening dinner and overnight in local guest house or in tented camp at the altitude eof 2,810 meter in Kagbeni.

4TH DAY

KAGBENI—CHUKSANG (2,900M); 4 HOURS

Breakfast, then start the trek to Chuksang. We will be walking four hours from Kagbeni bypassing the altitude of 3060 meters at Tangebe. We will be enjoying the beautiful scenerary of the Caves on the West hand side and Kang Gompa, we will reach the Tangebe, a labyrinth of narrow alleyways, where you will see the typical Mustang Chortens painted in black white and in red colours. After a hour we will reach the Chuksang which is giving wonderful view of its three separates parts and ruined castle walls which is close to the Cliffs is most atmospheric stop during our trekking. We will stop our trek today at Chuksang, have dinner and overnight in guest house or in tented camp.

5TH DAY

CHOCKSANG—SAMAR (3,150M) 4 HOURS

Morning breakfast, then starts our trek to Samar which is situated at 3,150 meters. As you enter deeper into the region; the villages will get more scattered, lifestyle becomes more to basic and landscapes will look more arid. We will be leaving the valley and clim up to Chele which is home to a numbers of ferocious Tibetan Mastiffs and chained to the typical village house. We will continue our trek towards up on the side of a steep canyon to a pass after where we will be descend of a pleasant trail to Samar allocated in grove of polar trees. We will overnight in Samar, have dinner and rest the remaining day.

6TH DAY

SAMAR—GELING ( 3,510M); 5 HOURS

Breakfast, then climbing above Samar we will come to a ridge which leads us into a large gorge then into a another valley filled with juniper trees. After crossing the stream we will climb again to another pass then crossing the ridge to Shyangmochen we will reach a tiny settlement with few local facilities. The Rangbyung, cave holding stalagmites which is formed in the shape of Chortens, is an extreamly scared place in Mustang. After then we will begin our descent trek into the Geling which is a home of traditional settlement built by mud and twigs in combination of straws. Today, we will overnight in Geling, rest the remaining day.

7TH DAY

GELING - GHAMI ( 3,490M); 5 HOURS

Enjoy your breakfast and we will prepare to head towards the Ghami, today. We will have a good climb towards Nyi La Pass crossing the altitude of 3,840 meter, beginning steadily to the centre of the valley you then head round to the head of the valley, to the Nyi La pass, then descent from here is quite gentle until we reach Ghami a large white-washed houses village sheltered by the overhanging cliffs. We will overnight at guest house and overnight in Ghami.

8TH DAY

GHAMI—CHARANG ( 3,620M); 5 HOURS

After breakfast, starts our today’s trek y Charang. Our trek heads through perhaps the driest part of Mustang, the trails are loose and tiring. However, the magnificent views will keep you going. On reaching Charang, a large spread out village at the top of the canyon you will see at the eastern end a huge Dzong (fortress) and red Gompa home to a great collection of Statues and Thankas. The Statues and Thankas are situated on the edge of the Kali Ghandaki Gorge. Overnight in Charang at guesthouse or in tented camp.

9TH DAY

CHARANG—LO-MANTHANG ( 3,840M); 3 HOURS

Have your breakfast and we will proceed our trek to Lo-Manthang, today. We might explore the Charang if we couldn’t manage it all already yesterday. By the time we need to leave village we will head up the valley to the boundary between Charang and Lo, the trail here broadens and soon you will catch sight of Lo-Manthang, with only one entrance you will walk round to the North East corner to get in. Finally we will reach the Lo-Manthang and overnight over there.

10TH DAY

EXPLORER THE LO-MANTHANG;

Breakfast, then we will explore the Lo-Manthang which is the residence of Lama’s with houses of 150 and capital of Mustang. The village is noted for its tall white washed mud brick walls, gompas and the Raja's or Royal or King's Palace, a nine-cornered, five story structure built around 1400.[5] There are four major temples: Jampa Lhakhang or Jampa Gompa, the oldest, built in the early 15th century and also known as the "God house"; Thubchen Gompa, a huge, red assembly hall and gompa built in the late 15th century and located just southwest of Jampa Gompa; Chodey Gompa, now the main city gompa; and the Choprang Gompa, which is popularly known as the "New Gompa".

11TH DAY

LO-MANTHANG - GHAMI (3490M); 6 HOURS;

After breakfast we will return back on our way to Ghami. Although there are little alternative ways to return back, we will decide on the spot which alternative trek trail to follow up so that we all wouldn’t be bored to follow up same track again. Overnight in Ghami.

12TH DAY

GHAMI—CHUKSANG (2,900M); 6 HOURS

Breakfast then we will start our trek to Chukasng by passing up and down hills, through desert like the scenery until we cross the Kali Gandaki River then finally we reach the Chuksang. Overnight in Chuksang.

13TH DAY

CHUKSANG - MUKTINATH (3,795M); 7 HOURS

Today after breakfast we will ahead our trek to an important pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, around the Vishnu temple which is surrounded by 108 taps made of brass in the shape of cow’s heads pouring out sacred water. You will travel through some pretty scenery today, apple orchards, agricultural fields and pretty villages. The monastery at Muktinath dates back to the 15th Century. After reaching the Muktinath we will explore the temple, enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery or Dhaulagiri and Niligiri peak. Overnight in Muktinath.

14TH DAY

MUKTINATH—JOMSOM (2,713M); 4 HOURS

15TH DAY

JOMSOM — POKHARA — KATHMANDU;

Early morning wake up and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri. Have your breakfast and take your flight from Jomsom to Pokhara, then further to Kathmandu either can be travelled by road or by flight. Overnight in Kathmandu

16TH DAY

KATHMANDU

Have your breakfast and today is your free day in Kathmandu for shopping the souvenirs or rest.

17TH DAY

KATHMANDU—TRIBHUWAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT;

Enjoy your breakfast at your hotel. Our team will transfer you to international airport in Kathmandu coordinating your flight departure time to your further destination.
